- All Three Foss Arctic Class Tugs are Equipped with Cathelco Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) Systems. The Systems Include: Recessed/Ice Class Hull Anodes and Reference Electrodes, Power Supply/Control Panel, Shaft-Grounding and Rudder Bonding Kits, Installation Supervision & Commissioning through Farwest Corrosion.
Cathelco Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) Systems use an arrangement of hull mounted anodes and reference electrodes, which are connected to a power supply/control panel. The ICCP System produces an external impressed current to the hull to suppress the atural electrochemical activity on the wetted surface on the hull. This eliminates the formation of aggressive corrosion cells on the surface of the hull and bonds the propellers and rudders. The ICCP System is constantly monitoring the electrical potential of the seawater to hull interface and automatically adjusting the current output as needed.
